Ladies Guest Day
Jan Geddes, Wednesday, 10 March 2010On Tuesday 9th March Ladies Guest Day went ahead despite the greens being closed the day before due to torrential rain. Many prayers were said as President Judy had shopped the day before in readiness for lunch and afternoon tea. Guest Day is our day for raising money for the VLBA Charity which this year was for Heart Kids, a very deservig cause. The tables were set up with 2 shades of pink serviettes with fresh flowers on the table, everyone received a special book mark to remember the day and our best crockery was used. The Match Committee did a great job as usual dealing with last minute withdrawals and when a team arrived which the Karingal member had forgotten to enter, some of the Match Committee ladies pulled out to give the guests a game. The day started off with the usual draw to the spider and draw to the ditch. The first game was started and as dark clouds loomed we had a very heavy shower on the 11th end of the first game. The 12th end was completed and we went into lunch and enjoyed a mixture of lovely sandwiches followed by a fruit platter. There was no sign of rain and another 12 ends were completed before we went in to enjoy lovely cream sponges and a plate of dips and nibbles. The guests were presented with pens which were hand painted by Noelle Fagg and a little notebook. The prizes were trophies donated by C & D Trophies and Debbie was there to present them. First prize Winners were presented with clocks, Runners Up were presented with lovely vases or glasses and then a card was drawn for the engraved mugs. The many raffles were drawn and President Judy announced that we had raised just over $600.00. Trevor Jordan has assured us that the B.O.M. will make the total $1,000.00. The day was enjoyed by everyone who participated. Thanks to Ladies and Match Committees for all the hard work you put in to this most succesful day.
P.S. Photos coming later.

Ladies Pennant Break-Up Dinner 2009/10
Annette Agnew, Wednesday, 3 February 2010With another Pennant 'Home & Away" season completed, the Karingal Ladies Pennant players enjoyed a break-up Dinner and Entertainment Extravaganza! Chairperson of Selectors, Diana Francis ably acted as MC for the evening and Welcomed All and gave special thanks to the Board of Management who had generously provided the meal at no charge to the players. Diana also thanked our men who week after week during the season help the Ladies by setting the tables, helpng with the score boards and umpiring etc.
An award presentation of the inaugural Lorrikeet Lodge Trophy for the rink with the best Aggregate Score for the season was won by the team of Jan Geddes (S), Gloria Taylor (T), Mary Redston (S) and Bev Carden (L).
Four acts, two performed by Diana Francis, Eileen Burgess, and new member Liz Eccle Smith entertained us before we enjoyed a delicious meal. Kudos to the catering staff, the meal was fantastic and I'm sure there was not one disappointed person in the room.
The main entertainment then followed in the form of a Royal Gala Performance lead by Jean Leenstra and friends. Jean impersonated Rolf Harris and helped by her friends performed his famous "Jake the Peg" rountine. Joyce Toth played the part of Queen Elizabeth 11 and looked every bit the part. Sounds of laughter echoed through the Club as the girls performed their act and one lady in particular had everyone guessing as to who the indigenous didgeridoo player was and even when I realised it was in fact Sue Ashman I still found it hard to believe!
All in All it was a hugely successful night and I'm sure thoroughly enjoyed by all! Seems like there is no end to the talent at our Club!

Karingal Ladies Win Group 9 Foundation Shield
Jan Geddes, Friday, 20 November 2009On Thursday 19th November a team consisting of President Judy Taberner, Secretary Jan Geddes (skip), Senior Vice President Margaret Taberner and Treasurer Judy Congress ventured to Mount Martha to play in the Annual Group 9 Foundation Day formerly know as Jo Pegler Day. The host Association this year was the Flinders District, on arrival the teams were warmly welcomed and enjoyed a nice cuppa and finger food. The idea of this day is for members of each committe to have a nice day out together as well as raising funds to pay expenses for Group 9. Gillian Jolley Group 9 Councillor Vice President of the VLBA was there as well as District Presidents and Secretaries from the three Associations. There were teams from 26 different clubs entered. The games started at 9.30 am it was decided to play 15 ends only because of the temperature forecast of 35 degrees celcius. Every alternate end we had to bowl to a circle at the top of the rink and each bowl in the circle counted, the other ends were played as normal. It was starting to get very warm at the end of 15 ends and we went into lunch. The raffles were drawn and then it was time to announce who the winners of the day were. There were three teams on equal shots up so they had to go by percentage. The Runners Up was a team from Dromana, then when they announced the winners Karingal, we were pleasantly shocked and surprised as Karingal has never won this event before in the 42 years of it's inception. While we were waiting for the entertainment Gillian read out some funny stories that were circulated through e mail. The entertainment was enjoyed by everyone, two very talented ladies from Rosebud Bowling Club mimed 2 songs each which had us all clapping our hands and singing along to Sadie The Cleaning Lady, My Blue Heaven and one more song. We then enjoyed a very nice afternoon tea. A lot of time was spent putting the day together. Thank you to all involved for making this a most enjoyable day.
