On Tuesday 18th May at 8.00 am 50 ladies from the Peninsula District Bowling Association set of from Frankston R.S.L.to the long awaited Ovens and Murray Tour that had been organised by our P.D.L.B.A. Secretary Judith Thorpe and President Fay Halligan and President and Secretary of the Ovens and Murray District Ladies Bowling Association Margaret Isherwood and Yvonne Drake. Our bus driver Barry set off and we listened to some lovely old songs and in between Fay kept us amused with some very funny jokes. We had a pit stop along the way where we enjoyed a smoko break and refueled with cappacinos and soft drinks. We reached our destination the Wangaratta Motel at about 12.30 pm and were warmly greeted by Margaret and Yvonne, there was no time to unpack as we due at Wareena Park Bowls Club for lunch at 1.00pm. After an other warm welcome we were treated to lovely home made soup and sandwiches. From there we visited the Bruck and Wool Mills, where ladies stocked up with linen and wool. Then on to Beechworth for Pre Dinner drinks and nibbles and to top it off we were treated to a smorgasboard of lovely casseroles and sweets all made by the members of the club. Bette Midler was there to entertain us. Wednesday, after a hearty breakfast of cereals, fruit, fruit juices, toast and coffee or tea in the Dining Room at the Motel (we had this every morning) we left to go to Ovens Bowls Club for bowls and morning tea. The trip to the Olive shop was cancelled as we ran out of time. From there we went to Moyhu Bowls Club for lunch where we were again filled up with nibbles and lovely home made soup, then we went onto Corowa Bowls Club for bowls, pre dinner drinks and lovely salads and sausages and a hamburger followed by home made trifles.. Thursday we left the motel for Benalla for bowls and morning tea some of us managed to sneak a quick go at the pokies. From there we went to Yarawonga for bowls and lunch, there we had soup and ham and salad. Then we went on the Boat Cruise which was very educational, the Captain gave us the history of the lake and we saw some very impressive houses alond the banks. then we visited the Border Golf and Bowls Club for a few ends of bowls or a visit to the gaming room. We then ventured to Wangaratta Bowls club (President Margaret's club) for tea where we had pre dinner drinks and nibbles and were again spoiled with an array of delicious casseroles and sweets. Everywhere we went we were warmly welcomed by members of all clubs we were treated like V.I..P.s and we had a lovely time. Every night we went back to a nice warm room thanks to the Motel Manager.Friday came around too soon and Margaret was there to wish us a fond farewell. Thank you lovely lady for a wonderful time.
